Synesthesia (also spelled synæsthesia or synaesthesia) is a neurologically-based condition in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway (source: wikipedia).

This phenomenon has always interested me, where people “see” sounds,  smell or taste colors or see characters in a certain color. Several artists and scientist are synestesists. Among them are Nicola Tesla (inventor), Pythagoras (philosopher), Ludwig Wittgenstein (philosopher), Wassily Kandinsky (painter), Richard D James (aka Aphex Twin, musician), Jimi Hendrix (musician) and Syd Barret (Pink Floyd, musician). There are more, and not everyone on the list above is confirmed 100%.

So far I have not seen Eno’s name in any of the compiled lists of synestesists, but I enjoy his music and soundscapes. And watching Kandinsky’s paintings I can pretty much see how a painting can be based on music.

Now how would the image above sound or taste…
