It’s not every day that a new field of mathematics arises, but fractals was something completely new. I remember seeing those beautiful images made from simple math formulas as a kid and trying recreate them on my first computer with VGA colors. I can recall I used FractInt for that.

I was surprised to see FractInt still existed, but the cause was a little less pleasant: today Benoit Mandelbrot died, age 85. Follow the links to TED to see some video material where he talks about his work.
